Pater Noster |

Listen to Pater Noster here
Pater Noster is an intense ten-minute sonic experience in total darkness for one audience member. Imagine taking an elevator to the heavens with David Lynch whispering in one ear and Bob Dylan in the other. The piece weaves together a combination of language, narrative and place that takes you from a child’s hospital bed to an icy glacial lake, from fifty black rosary beads to fifty bleak prayers, from daily bread to kingdom come. Sonically, the piece makes use of the sounds from the lift in the building where Leddy lives, taking the listener on a ten-minute long elevator journey to nowhere, in complete darkness. Pater Noster offers the audience a series of almost abstract texts that are thematically linked to the different meanings of pater noster, from the Lord’s prayer to a type of elevator, from glacial lakes to uninhabitable rocks, from a town in South Africa to a square beneath St Paul’s Cathedral. It’s even a type of pasta.
‘ Leddy produces another powerful piece of writing, hinting – however briefly – at a dense pattern of meanings to do with chances taken in life, and chances lost.’ The Scotsman ‘Inventive… A deliciously captivating experience’ The Herald ‘Brilliantly crafted’ The List
Pater Noster was shown at The Arches in April 2008.
